Association of Central European Schools

Bringing European schools together to support learning

ACES is a newly founded association of IB World Schools in Central Europe that aims to share resources among the nearly 40 member schools and support professional development to ultimately create a better learning experience for students. The development of a website presented a unique opportunity to define the ACES brand and its communication strategy.

I worked with Mr. Peter Murphy & Mr. Robert Donner, members of the ACES board, throughout spring & summer of 2016 to design & develop a modern, responsive and user-friendly site for the different target groups we defined.

The aim of the site is to inform about ACES projects, but also to provide the visitor with a portfolio of IB World Schools in the Central European Area. This was achieved using a sophisticated map view in addition to a grid view that allows the schools to present themselves in an individual, personal fashion.

The website is based on the lightweight CMS Kirby, working with the Mapbox API to create a feature-rich, beautiful map with all ACES member schools. It is fully responsive and all of the content can be edited using a simple backend panel.

The site also has a log-in area for the member schools to share documents and important internal announcements. Each school has a separate account, accessing the data over a secure SSL-encrypted connection.

The site is fully responsive, adapting to any device size and input method. All of the front-end PHP templates and (S)CSS stylesheets were programmed by me.

The site is always developing and new features will most likely be added in the future.
